L-ARGININA

L-arginine is a relatively exogenous amino acid; in some clinical situations it is necessary to supplement it.

L-arginine participates in the urea cycle – the metabolic cycle of three amino acids: ornithine, citrulline and arginine, which results in urea formation from ammonia, carbon dioxide and aspartate.

It has been shown that products of the L-arginine pathways: urea, proline, polyamines and nitric oxide have an effect on various phases of wound healing. Nitric oxide also stimulates the immune system and takes part in bactericidal processes. Additionally, nitric oxide has a vasodilatation effect, i.e. it widens blood vessels. This aspect is particularly important for patients struggling with diabetic foot problems.

The amount of L-arginine inside the wound may be reduced to an undetectable concentration and in this case its availability is essential for wound healing. It takes part in synthesis of collagen, the main protein and building material of connective tissues, such as skin and connective tissues.

Collagen

Collagen is absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract and, as proven by the in vitro study, is accumulated in the skin.1 The study demonstrated that collagen supplementation in the amount of 5 g per day has the effect of maintaining skin elasticity and hydration of the epidermis2 that is important for treatment of pressure ulcer wounds. Collagen hydrolysate proteins inhibit the processes leading to muscle atrophy, support wound healing processes and prevent sarcopenia.

Zink

Indispensable vitamins and minerals

Arginilan™ also contains zinc and vitamins A and C, which are important in wound healing processes and prevention of pressure ulcers.

Zinc plays a role in regenerative processes, e.g. during convalescence.3
